Our Mission

The Mission of the Jefferson Historical Society: The name of this organization shall be “The Jefferson Historical Society”( JHS). The organization, located in Jefferson, Schoharie County, New York, shall be a non-profit corporation. Its purpose shall be to conduct and encourage historical research and to collect, preserve, and exhibit historical material related to the Town of Jefferson. The Society shall operate the JHS Museum at the Masonic Hall as an educational resource for the public, a repository for its collections, and a place to present exhibits and educational programs.

The Jefferson Historical Society is committed to strengthening the connections between our history and our lives that we find  in our community, today.  Restoring the Maple Museum and Judd Hall (the former Masonic Hall) to be used for public events, has grounded us in our work to keep history alive.  The concerts and programs we present in these buildings bring to life the experiences that people in Jefferson have enjoyed for well over a century.  If you visit the Jefferson Historical Society Facebook page you will find the photos and records of our past that families here have shared.  Soon to be open upstairs in Judd Hall, the Jefferson Local History Museum will have displays of the photos, and items brought to the Society from former and current residents. A digital archive of photos and other ephemera will be made available for people to research.
